Happy 4th of July! Or should I say Independence Day? Or maybe birthday? The power of turning 21 years old in London is close to nil. Exciting yes. Significance here? No. Neither does the 4th hold any sort of celebration for the British. That didn't stop me from celebrating.
Woke up and treated myself to a mocha at a local cafe. Then had class for six hours before going to afternoon tea. My new friends from China bought me goodies from a bakery. How sweet!
Afternoon tea was delightful. Three tiers of afternoon tea sandwiches, a freshly baked scone with Cornish clotted cream and jam, chocolate cupcake, Valrhona brownie, white chocolate blondie, mini meringues, and a fruity marshmallow. Paired nicely with a rooibos vanilla loose leaf tea. So delicious I drank one and a half pots of tea. If you want to try afternoon tea the right way, check out Bea's of Bloomsbury. Make a reservation ahead of time and enjoy a relaxing time experiencing a British tradition.
Skyped my family for a bit. I "blew" out a candle as they sang happy birthday. Felt very loved.
Headed up to the Shard (tallest building in London) with a few friends. What a sight! Felt like a princess - first treated to tea and then this view.
Overall, a spectacular birthday spent halfway across the world. Thank you to everyone who made my day special and continue to bless me with your wisdom, support and friendship.
